President: Ms. Elizabeth Doyle Fleming BSc OSH, CMIOSH MIES is a chartered occupational safety and health (OSH) practitioner since 2005 with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. She specialises in OSH Risk Management and OSH education at third level.  She lectured in occupational safety and health at the Centre for Safety and Health at Work, University College Dublin and continues to be involved academically. With a professional background in the aviation industry, she is a founding member and an honorary life member of the European Aviation Group of Occupational Safety and Health.  She joined the Medico-Legal Society of Ireland in 2006, was elected to Council in 2010 and nominated as Honorary Secretary in 2011 and re-elected each year to 2017. Liz was proposed and elected as President of the Society in June 2017.

Professor and Head of Subject of Forensic & Legal Medicine, School of Medicine and  Medical Science, University College Dublin,  1999 to date. Professor of Forensic & Legal Medicine Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland/UCD at Penang Medical College, Malaysia 2000 to date. Coroner for the County of Kildare, Ireland 1995 to date. Director of the Medical Bureau of Road Safety, Dublin, Ireland 1997 to date. President, Coroners Society of Ireland 2008-2010. Member of the Medico-Legal Society of Ireland since 1987. He was elected President of the Medico-Legal Society in 2015 and held the position until June 2017.

Honorary Secretary: Dr Norella Broderick BL is a graduate of UCD in law, was called to the Bar in 2005, and later continued her studies at UCD, qualifying in medicine in 2008. She worked with the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Ryan Commission), and as a Professional Support Lawyer with Matheson Ormsby Prentice (now Matheson), prior to returning to academia. She is currently a trainee on the SVUH/SJOG/UCD Psychiatry BST. Dr Broderick's key interests lie in the areas of neuropsychiatry, medical law and medical ethics. She was elected Hon. Secretary of the Society in June 2017.

Honorary Treasurer:  Dr. Carlos McDowell  is a graduate of medicine from Trinity College, Dublin [1973] and specialised in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine, graduating with Fellowships from both the Irish and London Colleges of Anaesthesia. She worked as a consultant in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for 29 years. Since retiring from hospital work, she is currently working part-time with the Turf Club and Irish Racecourses – pre-hospital trauma. Dr McDowell was nominated and elected as Hon. Treasurer at the Society’s AGM in June 2014 and re-elected each year to date.

Dr Richard Aboud 
Dr. Aboud - Graduate of RCSI 1994, holds a Masters Degree in human physiology from UCD, a practicing GP in the Beaumont Area of Dublin and an undergraduate and postgraduate trainer in General-practice for the RCSI GP training program. Richard holds memberships to the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Royal College of Sports and Exercise Medicine at RCSI. With a special interest in Personal Injuries and has been an Independent Medical Assessor to the Injuries Board, Solicitors and Insurance companies for many years. Dr Aboud’s GP practice has a high number of elderly patients and terminal disease suffers, and as such has a special interest in end-of life care resulting in a very good working relationship with the Coroner's office. 

Ms. Mema Byrne BL 
Ms. Byrne BL is a practicing barrister with 10 years experience. Mema has worked as both plaintiff and defence counsel in many medical negligence actions and has a keen interest in both plaintiff and defence aspects of medical negligence law. In more general terms Mema is interested in the areas where the legal and medical worlds collide, and has for many years enjoyed the interesting array of talks provided by the medico-legal society. 

Dr. Simone Carton 
Dr. Carton is Principal Clinical Neuropsychologist at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dublin. She competed her professional training in Clinical Psychology at Trinity College Dublin and then pursued specialist training in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Institute of Psychiatry and the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London. Her clinical and academic work focuses on the cognitive and behaviour changes associated with neurological disease and acquired brain injury, in particular decision- making, personality change and factors enhancing neuro-rehabilitation. She lectures in Clinical Neuropsychology at TCD, UCD, UCG, RSCI and RCPI to post-graduates in health sciences and engineering. She provides expert opinion in legal cases and is a member of the Medico-legal Society of Ireland for over ten years. 

Dr. Fiona Donnelly  
Dr. Fiona Donnelly has over 30 years’ experience as a qualified physician and has spent over 20 years specialising in Occupational Medicine. Having previously worked with a range of clients spanning numerous industry sectors including the HSE, Citrix, Injuries Board and Irish Life Medicals, she has the experience and knowledge to prescribe healthy practices for workplaces & workforce. Her educational achievements include the following: Masters of Medical Science(Pathology) UCD; Licentiate and Diploma in Occupational Health; Higher Diploma in Healthcare Management (RCSI); Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (Ireland); Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK).

Dr Damian Mohan 
Dr Mohan is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with the National Forensic Mental Health Service and Clinical Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry in trinity College Dublin. His clinical interests include mental health law, development of mental health services within prison and psychiatric aspects of employment litigation. 

Dr Loretta Nolan BL
Dr. Nolan graduated with a First Class honours degree in Science from UCD in 1992 and completed her medical training in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997. After completing basic general surgical training on the Dublin Regional Surgical Training Scheme, Dr. Nolan undertook specialist training in ophthalmology and has practised as an ophthalmologist with the HSE since 2005. Whilst on sabbatical from the HSE she completed a short service commission with the Irish Defence Forces and served overseas with the United Nations and EUFOR in Chad. On her return, Dr. Nolan commenced legal training at The Honorable Society of Kings Inns and was called to the Bar in 2014. Dr. Nolan was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the RCSI and RCPI in 2016. Her areas of special interest include; legal medicine and the role of the coroner, medico legal aspects of sports and paediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Nolan is a member of the Army Pensions Board, the Medicolegal Society of Ireland, The Coroners Society of Ireland and is the Deputy Coroner for Co. Kildare.

She also runs a Menopause Clinic in Blackrock and is a Director of the Institute of Women's Health and a case study 59 year old mum of 2 Anne who started the menopause at 39 and was on HRT for 15 years. She is a Founding Member and Secretary General of the European Society of Contraception, she is also a Board Member of the Saffron Initiative. Mary runs a Menopause Clinic in Ireland and is a Director of the Institute of Women's Health.

Ms Keane is a practicing barrister. She graduated with a BA in Economics and Politics and an MSc (Econ) in European Affairs from University College Dublin. She also pursued further studies at Marquette University, Milwaukee, USA in Medical Science. She attended Kings Inns and was called to the Bar in 2000. She has lectured on the Degree Course at Kings Inns, developed its Continuing Professional Development programme and is the examiner for the Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Compliance Course for the Institute of Bankers, University College Dublin. She specialises in medical/healthcare law and pharmaceutical/medical device law.

Ms Shine is the Medico-legal Training Consultant with La Touche Training.  She was awarded a first class Honours Degree in Mathematics and Infirmation Technology and a Masters Degree in Software Design and Development from the National University of Ireland, Galway. She then studied law and qualified as a solicitor. Prior to joining La Touche training she worked in a general law practice firm specialising in civil litigation.

Ms. Gannon is a Partner and Head of Healthcare in Eversheds international law firm. She qualified in law in 1998. Her expertise includes representing and advising healthcare service providers in both the public and private sector. Aisling is the course consultant on the Law Society's Diploma/Certificate in Healthcare Law in addition to sitting on a number of internal hospital committees. She is a member of the Academy of European Law and is an Associate Member of the Irish Health Care Risk Manager’s Association, the Mediation Institute of Ireland, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Royal Society of Medicine. Aisling is a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Ireland since 2009.

Mr. Terence Coghlan B.L. 
Terence was called to the Bar in 1991. Since then he has practised as a Junior Counsel. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin (T.C.D) in Legal Science, he also holds a postgraduate degree from National University of Ireland (N.U.I.) (LL.M. in Commercial Law). 
He is a member of the Research and Ethics Committee of St. Patrick's University Hospital. Terence was nominated and served as Hon. Treasurer of the Society in the 58th Session 2013-14.
